Overview

This qualification sets the standard for anyone working in early years. An early years practitioner works with children aged 0-5 years and supports their early education in a safe environment. Find out how to help children to get ready for school and watch them learn and develop in your care. This course will give you the knowledge and skills to get a job working in education or childcare. You could go on to be a nursery nurse, reception class teacher, childminder or nanny.

Overview of work placements

In order to successfully complete a Diploma for the Early Years Workforce (Early Years Educator) CACHE Level 3 (RQF) qualification you are required to complete a compulsory work placement. The work placement can be paid or voluntary and each learner is responsible for arranging their own placement.

Along with their first set of course materials, learners will receive a comprehensive guide giving them plenty of information on what is required during the placement, how to set it up and the types of activities that they will need to complete (including examples of the types of evidence that will need to be submitted).

Module 1: Support healthy lifestyles for children through the provision of food and nutrition (L/505/9300)

Module 2: Promote healthy lifestyles for children through exercise (A/505/9809)

  • Be able to support children’s exercise in an indoor and outdoor space

Module 3: Support physical care routines for children (M/505/9810)

The learning outcomes for this module are:

  • Understand the physical care needs of children
  • Be able to use hygienic practice to minimise the spread of infection
  • Understand rest and sleep needs of children
  • Understand childhood immunisation
  • Be able to support children in personal physical care routines

Module 4: Promote children’s emotional well-being (T/505/9811)

  • Understand children’s needs in relation to emotional well-being
  • Understand the requirements for promoting emotional well-being in relation to current frameworks
  • Understand the needs of children during transition and significant events
  • Be able to promote the emotional well-being of children in own setting

Module 5: Understand how to support children who are unwell (A/505/9812)

Module 6: Understand legislation relating to the safeguarding, protection and welfare of children (F/505/9813)

Requirements

In order to achieve your CACHE Level 3 Diploma for the Early Years Workforce (Early Years Educator) qualification you will be required to do a minimum of 350 hours in a suitable placement.

In order to get the most out of your placement, we strongly advise that placements should be done in 1 or 2 settings to cover the following age ranges:

Practical evidence is required for all age groups in all units so we recommend that you complete the hours for all age groups throughout the length of your time studying. This will ensure you are able to meet the practical evidence requirements to pass the qualification.

If you have a placement in a setting which provides care and education for children and allows you to get the required experience across these three age ranges (for example a nursery looking after babies from 6 weeks to 5 years) then you do not need to do a placement outside of this one setting.

Assessment

Our course is designed to be as flexible as possible and allows you to fit it in with your existing commitments. Unlike a traditional college (where you are required to attend lessons at set times) you will be able to study the theory element in your own time and in the privacy of your own home either online.

After each lesson there will be a question paper which needs to be completed and submitted to your assessor for marking. Some of the assignment towards the end of your course will require audio visual evidence to be submitted for some of the competency based assignment tasks.

This method of continual assessment ensures that your assessor can consistently monitor your progress and provide you with assistance throughout the duration of the course.

You should allow at least 1 - 2 hours of study to complete each question paper. The approximate amount of time required to complete the course is 486 hrs.
